| My Story In 1985 I found myself asking, "How can I become a partner in Bible translation?" My answer was to send my daughter Jennifer on a mission trip. Then the Lord spoke to me personally as I memorized Matthew 28:18. I was challenged by His call to go make disciples and teach. At Wycliffe's recommendation, I prepared to teach missionary children. In May 1992, I went to Guatemala and taught at the Christian Academy of Guatemala for two years. In 1994, I prepared to serve in Scripture Use and Literacy by attending a summer session of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) in Oregon. Returning to Guatemala I assisted with various workshops to train indigenous literacy workers in making their own learning aids. In "Big Book" workshops, each participant made a giant book by hand printing and illustrating an original story. A literacy worker was needed in Nebaj, a highlands village 200 miles from the Mexican border. In this area live 65,000 Mayan Ixil Indians. I visited and immediately sensed God calling me to work with these people.
In January 1995, I was officially assigned to the Nebaj Ixil area. I then facilitated literacy classes, training of promoters, making contextualized videos, music in Ixil, translation of texts for use in bilingual classes, and other Scripture Use activities. These programs originated from CECI (Center of Christian Education in Ixil) with centers in Nebaj and the village of Salquil Grande. See other links for more information School Literacy-Scripture Use Evangelism-Video/ Music.
Since the New Testament has now been published and was dedicated August 10, 2008 my main focus will be to find financial supporters and prayer partners for Light & Life School in Salquil Grande. I am now living part-time in Denver, Colorado and part-time in Nebaj/Salquil, Guatemala and planning for retirement. Pray with me that the Lord will raise up a non-profit organization and supporters who will see the importance of the continuance of Light & Life School. Thanks to the Lord and all who faithfully supported me over all these years.

| A Tribute to My Friend Sharon Rosenwald
Hi, My name is Sue and I been the webmaster for this site and now I believe it is my turn to add my comments to the website. I have been close friends with Sharon for 25 or more years. First we were neighbors who attended the same church (Faith Baptist Church, Parker, CO) and had teens who attended the same Faith Youth Group. Then we became serious prayer partners meeting every week to pray for our teens. Also we both participated in the Faith Baptist Mission Committee. It was during this time that Sharon felt called to become a Wycliffe/SIL Literacy Specialist in Guatemala. We have kept in contact all these years, and Sharon sometimes stayed at our home when she was on furlough back here in Colorado. I wish to express my appreciation to all of you who supported her work. I believe that Sharon's coming to Nebaj in 1995 was crucial to the ongoing progress of translation of the Nebaj, Ixil New Testament. Sharon was the net worker, encourager, and communicator that was the glue that kept together the different aspects of the various activities of translation, videos, etc. Sharon is a true missionary who wore the clothes, ate the food, lived in the homes with the Nebaj/Ixil people and endured their same austere hardships. Her passion for Light & Life School comes from a heartfelt knowledge of the school which she believes will be the continuing light to the next Ixil generation. She believes in the staff and their commitment to Christ to spread the gospel as well as offer its students an excellent education. Her prayer is to find a non profit agency to back the school and be the conduit for finances. Then Sharon can rest believing that "she has fought the fight, finished the course, and that all the years and ministry to so many will not be in vain.
