Ixil Mayan People Group
Ixil people are of Mayan descent and live in a certain area of northwest Guatemala. which is called the Nebaj Triangle which includes the biggest and main city is Nebaj . Salquil Grande where the Light and Life Christian School is located is a village north of Nebaj. The people here speak their native language of Ixil. I worked on the Nebaj Ixil New Testament with the Wycliffe translators which was completed in 2008. The Light and Life school teaches in both Nebaj Ixil and Spanish. Light and Life is it is unique as the only Christian school that can teach in this particular form of Ixil and the New Testament is completed for them to read. Many Ixil people have not even learned much Spanish. ..Below you will see some example which will help you picture their life there. Click on the photos to enlarge.

| In this left photo (click to make larger) you can notice how it looks in the inside of a typical Ixil home. The whole family live in one room. You can also notice in background the wood burning stove that is used to cook. The beautiful weaving is an example of the how the Ixil woman makes their clothes.they are especailly noted for their weaving. http://www.mayanhands.org/about.html Each Ixil area has a different native dress so one can tell right away from where a person lives in the Ixil Triangle area. The Ixil people are subsistence farmers which means they live by what they grow which is mainly corn, beans, chickens, pigs etc -and do not much have much else in their diet so most are malnourished. They make money to buy things through weaving
