Evangelism Through Music, Drama & Videos Part of my job was to encourage the spread of the gospel by assisting and supporting Chrisitan Ixil people to use their own talents to tell other Ixil people about the Lord. Several music groups have been formed to sing Christian Music in Ixil. Also, I assisted and trained Ixil Christians in Drama and videos (example - The Prodigal Son parable) The videos were "contexualized" made of Bible Stories in the Ixil language with Christian local Ixil actors in Nebaj and filmed in the area.. In Prodigal Son it was not the Fatten Calf that the Father had cooked for his retruning son but rather a pig and typical Ixil menu. Through CECI I was part of developing Ixil literature for those who could read in their own language. Prior to Wycliffe Translators Helen and Ray Elliot coming to the Nebaj area Ixil was not a written language. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. | Benito and his family. He's teaching them all to play instruments so they'll be a family music group who sings Christian songs in Ixil. They play for churches and parties. |

The photo on the right shows how recording is done for Audios etc. This below group of Ixil musicians sings Scripture and Christian songs in Ixil using Andean-style music. My greatest joy is seeing this Christian music group become close to self sustaining. True Ixil leadership has developed. Members of the group still change from time to time, but the leadership continues. The group does not ask for, but usually receives offerings when they perform. They generally use this money for travel expenses and items such as guitar and charango cords. This helps them to be financially independent except for large expenses. They're currently saving money to purchase their own sound equipment.

Here is a photo of our working and proof reading the recording. |

Wycliffe Bible Translators was founded in 1942 by William Cameron Townsend. A missionary to the Cakchiquel Indians of Guatemala, Townsend had caught the vision for translation when a Cakchiquel man challenged him: "If your God is so great, why doesn’t He speak in my language?"
