As a Wycliffe Literacy Specialist, I've served the Maya Ixil people in the Nebaj/Salquil Grande area of Guatemala for fourteen years. The Nebaj Ixil New Testament was dedicated in August 2008. I believe the Lord now desires me to focus on promoting, teacher training, and finding financial aid for Light & Life School as the most important way of continuing my mission to the Ixil people and to impact future generations. The enduring existence of Light & Life School is of extreme importance to reinforce the translation work already completed by Wycliffe and to further the Gospel in the area. Miguel is in the first IXIL generation able to learn to read the New Testament by himself at such a young age.

Most of the students come from families whose parents have little or no formal education. If they did attend school they were taught in Spanish, not Ixil their mother tongue. Light & Life School is producing the first generation of students who will learn in both Ixil and Spanish. Most important--they will be taught the Bible in their mother tongue of Ixil.

| Dallas Bilingual Seminar -Carlos, the Light & Life School Director (Principal) , says, "Uma't yolb'al uva' la itx'ol ve'te', as a'e' la eq'on katikat kuxhtu'. (Translation) "Learning one language is not sufficient. When the children learn to speak, understand, write, and read two languages, they'll have many more opportunities in life. The methods and techniques I learned will work with the children, and I intend to use them. If we do apply these methods, we will see results in the children's learning."
